3D Mammography
Early detection is key!
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. Gadsden Regional Medical Center utilizes imaging technology that may detect breast cancer at the earliest and most treatable stages. The combination of caring technologists and imaging technology allows us to deliver quality care.
Mammography is an X-ray exam of the breasts used to screen for or diagnose breast cancer. Gadsden Regional Medical Center offers three-dimensional imaging technology for mammograms. With a 3D mammogram, we are able to produce a high-definition, 3D image of the breast tissue.
3D mammography is beneficial for women with dense breast tissue because it provides a clearer picture than a 2D mammogram for radiologists, which can help reduce the risk of a false positive.* The new system features a proprietary curved paddle that mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast. This innovation is part of Gadsden Regional Medical Center’s steadfast commitment to improved breast health for women.
The Women’s Imaging Center at Gadsden Regional Medical Center provides the following breast imaging services:
- Screening mammogram
- Diagnostic mammogram
- Needle localization
- Stereotactic biopsy
- Bone density testing
- Ultrasound
Following the American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines for screening mammography can help improve the chances that breast cancer can be found early and treated successfully. The ACR recommends:
- For women of average risk, annual mammograms starting at age 40
- No upper age limit as long as the woman is in good health**
- Higher-risk women should start breast cancer screening earlier and may benefit from supplemental screening modalities
Please consult with your provider to determine the best screening timeline for you. If you do not have a primary care physician, please visit GadsdenPhysicianClinics.com to learn more about and schedule an appointment with a physician.
Gadsden Regional Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). All mammography technicians are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

*According to acr.org, breast tomosynthesis (3D) has shown to be an advance over digital (2D) mammography, with higher cancer detection rates and fewer patient call-backs for additional testing.
