Adult Inpatient Care
The Behavioral Health Unit at Gadsden Regional Medical Center consists of two, secure inpatient psychiatric units for the treatment of adults ages 19 to 64 who are experiencing acute behavioral health treatment needs. We offer a continuum of psychiatric inpatient care for adult patients, with a total of 34 beds in the care unit. We are located at a functioning medical facility, so patients also have access to consultation by other medical specialists for non-psychiatric medical needs.
The treatment team at the Behavioral Health Unit consists of the attending psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, staff nurses, multi-skilled technicians, licensed master and clinical social workers, recreational therapist, occupational therapist and other consultants as needed. All these professionals collaborate to provide an environment where the patient can best work on particular problem areas and stabilize to be able to return to normal daily functioning.
Our goal is to help patients learn new problem solving and coping skills, interpersonal skills, life skills, social skills and medication management. We also seek to give patients the opportunity to practice these skills. A structured therapeutic program is offered on each unit to provide patients with the optimal environment for recovery. Each patient’s individualized treatment plan includes a combination of individual, group and family services to prepare each patient for outpatient treatments.
The inpatient treatment team works closely with outpatient behavioral health services, the mental health center, private psychiatrists/therapists and other treatment and/or community resources to ensure that every patient has access to community-based care upon discharge from the hospital.
