Spencer Named Latest Hicks Award Winner

Gadsden, Ala. – Longtime Gadsden radiologist Dr. Homer Spencer was honored as the latest recipient of Gadsden Regional Medical Center’s Chester Hicks, M.D., Award.
The award is “presented to a physician who demonstrates a commitment to providing the highest quality service by meeting or exceeding our patients’ needs with care, compassion and courtesy, by demonstrating commitment to teamwork and GRMC goals, by optimizing resources, and by creating and maintaining a respectful, safe, and caring environment.”
Dr. Spencer attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has served the medical staff at GRMC for more than 30 years.
Nominations for Dr. Spencer said he is very kind and compassionate to both staff and patients. “Dr. Spencer always demonstrates a high level of competence while creating a wonderful work environment.
Dr. Spencer was also commended for being very professional and consistently embraced and adapted to new technology as it has been put before him. He really cares about patient safety.
Dr. Spencer was presented with the award by Dr. John Pirani and Dr. Chester Hicks, the award’s namesake, during a reception at the Gadsden Museum of Art.
Previous winners of the Hicks Award are Dr. Newt Godfree, Dr. Lowndes Harrison, Dr. Darryl Prime, Dr. Terry Robinson, Dr. James Phillips, and the late Dr. Richard Rutland.
