Gadsden Regional Medical Center Administers First COVID-19 Vaccines to Frontline Healthcare Workers

GADSDEN, Alabama, December 24, 2020 – Thirty healthcare workers at Gadsden Regional Medical Center received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine yesterday, December 23, 2020.
Gadsden Regional received 1,500 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on December 23, 2020. The first doses were administered under four hours after the hospital received the vaccines.
“We are pleased to share the news that we have received a shipment of COVID-19 vaccines at our facility,” said Justin Bryant, chief executive officer at Gadsden Regional. “Prevention is key since there is no cure for COVID-19. Vaccination is an important step in helping to prevent this illness and its potentially devastating consequences. We are honored to have such an early opportunity to provide the next barrier of defense against this virus.”
Jessica Pitcock (pictured), the director of the medical intensive care unit (MICU) at Gadsden Regional, was the first employee to receive the vaccine. The MICU currently houses COVID-19 positive patients at Gadsden Regional.
Dr. Andy Vann, emergency department medical director; Kayley Hurt, pulmonary nurse practitioner; Lindsay Brannon, registered nurse in the SICU; Megan Moore, pulmonary nurse practitioner; Jacob Boydston, antibiotic stewardship pharmacist; Madison Spivey, nurse student aide in the emergency department; and Hannah Smith, registered nurse in the operating room, were among the 29 other Gadsden Regional employees that received the vaccine.
