Labor, Delivery & Recovery

You will deliver your baby and begin your recovery period in a specially equipped homelike Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) room. Not long after your delivery, you will go to a comfortable Mother and Baby room for the rest of your stay. You and your baby can be together as much as you like. This is an important time for you and your family to get to know the new baby. The baby can remain in the room with you, or if you'd like some quite time, the nurses will be happy to care for your baby in the nursery for a few hours. Your nurses are a great resource for you. They can answer your questions, from breast-feeding and bathing, to why your baby cries. What you learn from your nurses will give you a good start on taking care of your baby and yourself once you return home.

Pediatrics

GRMC provides a specially designed and decorated pediatric wing. Our highly experienced pediatric nurses know how to give the special care and personal attention needed by young patients and their families. Each child's room is equipped with a comfortable chair/bed allowing the parent to stay by the child's side to soothe their fears and give them comfort. And remember, your nurse will be a valuable source of information preparing you for when you take your child home. Our pediatricians, family practice physicians, nurses and support staff work as a team to provide a comprehensive care plan for your child. We understand that even a short hospital stay can cause a child to be bored or restless, we provide books, Nintendo, video tapes, games and toys to help entertain your child.

Insurance/Billing Information

Pre-Admission Program

Gadsden Regional Medical Center has a pre-admission program for expectant mothers. If you would like to pre-register but have not done so, please call our pre-admission office at 256-494-4775 or come by the admission office during regular business hours. We can get your account set up in advance of your delivery and thereby avoid long delays in the admitting office when you come in.

As part of the pre-registration process we will assist you in identifying what you will owe for your delivery and will help you make the necessary arrangements prior to your delivery. We do request that any part of your bill that will be due from you be paid in advance of your delivery and offer discounts for pre-payment.

Cradle Club

For patients who do not have resources to cover their delivery, we have a program called the "Cradle Club." The program offers substantial discounts and allows the mother to take advantage of a set price. The only requirement is that the price be paid prior to discharge. Call or come by our Admissions office to find out more.

Medicaid

For expectant mothers who do not have insurance and can not pay their bill, we encourage you to seek assistance from the Medicaid program. The programs available from the state have changed in the last few years. A new program is available for many families that may not qualify for full Medicaid, but who can obtain coverage for obstetrical care only.

At no cost to our patients, we have available a representative who can assist you in performing a preliminary screening that will let you know if you may qualify. This representative can also assist in filing the application. Please contact our Business Services Department at 256-494-4061 for more information.
