The Rehab Center
ABOUT US
Gadsden Regional Medical Center offers a comprehensive multi-discipline approach to North Alabama's rehabilitation needs. Our Rehabilitation Department includes Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology. Theses clinical teams are available at our Acute Care Hospital campus, our Out Patient Facility, The Rehab Center, and through our Occupational Health Center. By having the resources of Gadsden's largest hospital we are able to provide a high quality and comprehensive continuum of care to patients of all ages and abilities.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Each discipline works together as a complete team committed to excellence. Our staff is well trained to care for patients of all ages and abilities with the common goal of achieving the highest level of independence and maximum function out of each individual patient and their unique circumstances.
-
Physical Therapy The discipline of Physical Therapy offers treatment approaches for adult and pediatric patients. The staff of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants specializes in treating a variety of orthopedic, neurological, wound care, and medical problems. Their emphasis is on helping the patient overcome the physical impairments caused by disease, injury, motor developmental problems, physical deconditioning, or amputation. Physical Therapy treatment techniques help the patient regain muscle strength, joint range-of-motion, ambulation, balance, coordination, endurance and functional mobility using a variety of equipment, assistive devices, exercise techniques, therapeutic modalities, and aquatic therapy pools. Physical Therapists also provide valuable training on injury prevention at the workplace, functional capacity evaluations to assess work potential, and design programs to return patients to work safely.
-
Occupational Therapy The Occupational Therapy team members offer a broad range of services to meet a wide variety of adult and pediatric needs. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation and treatment of patients with deficits in the areas of self care (dressing, grooming, bathing), activities of daily living (meal preparation, eating, household tasks), upper extremity coordination, perception and cognition (thinking). Occupational Therapists also specialize in treating hand and arm problems including upper extremity splinting for joint protection, spasticity control, deformity prevention and improved function. The overall goal of Occupational Therapy is to maximize the patient's functional independence so that their quality of life improves. The unique needs of the patient and family members are addressed through treatment, training, adaptive equipment, and education that include the family as integral members of the team.
-
Speech Language Pathology The Speech-Language Pathology team members specialize in assessment and treatment of individuals of all ages with communication, cognitive (thinking), memory, problem solving, voice disorders, hearing and/or swallowing problems due to developmental delay, progressive or chronic neurological processes, traumatic brain injury, cancer, and other diagnoses. HOSPITAL/COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
- Fall Prevention and Balance Screening
Our Physical Therapy staff can be scheduled to screen your civic group or organization for fall risk and clinical balance testing. The therapists take a brief history, assess your self-confidence, and measure your skills versus typical values for your age on several balance tests. Following the exam your results are discussed along with prevention tips and education on areas to improve. This event is community based and not intended to substitute medical or rehabilitation care.
- Community Activities
The Rehabilitation team has been involved in or sponsored several community events. These events have included booths at local community and senior fairs promoting health and rehabilitation, Balance and Fall screening, lectures at several local support groups on rehabilitation issues, and safety training for local coaches. These are only a few of the many community programs we had assisted and hope to continue this success by offering quarterly programs on rehabilitation topics at The Rehab Center. If you feel your community group would benefit from a lecture or screening from our rehabilitation professionals please call us at 413-RHAB.
LOCATION
The Rehab Center is located behind Fitness Plus at 3102 Rainbow Drive. This facility has access to 31,000 square feet of fitness equipment, two pools for aquatic therapy, as well as a central location in Etowah county and curbside drop off/pick up.
